Trump Seeks to Outsource Prisoners in El Salvador

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has secured an agreement with El Salvador’s President to accept deportees from the U.S. of any nationality, including American citizens, and to jail them.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has secured an agreement with El Salvador’s President to accept deportees from the U.S. of any nationality, including violent American criminals, and to jail them.

The agreement, known as a “safe third country” agreement, would allow the U.S. to outsource part of its prison system to El Salvador. The deal has been met with criticism from human rights activists, who warn that El Salvador lacks a consistent policy for the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees.
