Bible Thumping Loser Becomes Speaker

Mike Johnson’s radical views may spell disaster for the GOP in 2024. His hardline stance on social issues and religious extremism could alienate moderate Republicans and swing voters, potentially handing Democrats a sweeping victory in 2024.

Mike Johnson, the new, unanimously elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives, will hand control of the Senate, House, and presidency back to the Democrats in the 2024 elections.

What?

That’s right. Johnson will be so hated by both Democrats and Republicans, the purple states will turn blue, as well as every (R) congressional district that voted for Biden in 2020. His views on every social issue are right out of The Handmaid’s Tale. Anti-abortion. Anti-feminism. Anti-gay. Anti-trans. Against same-sex marriage. Against single-payer health care. He’s against Social Security. Wants to have school prayer in public schools. He supported Trump’s Muslim ban. Believes medical marijuana is a “gateway drug” to heroin. Was on Trump’s legal defense team for both impeachments. Believes Noah’s Ark was real (and had dinosaurs). Wants extensive tax cuts for the rich.

Mike Johnson is a policy hand grenade for Republicans.

Even long-time Republicans, the trickle-down R’s, are not going to support these policies. Ultra MAGA chuds and freaks will, but the rest of them won’t. Johnson is the best Democratic advertising you could imagine from the Republican Party. There are YouTube videos of this guy saying we need to ban abortion, so we have more people born to work and increase the US economy. The guy is certifiably insane. He is one of those sad ‘true believers’. He’s one step below a cult leader, but since he has the charisma of a seashell (sorry seashells), he is a politician instead of a Jesus guru.

He wasted no time in making his religious views known. As a deeply entrenched evangelical Christian, Johnson suggested that his Speaker election was ordained by God. He wants to fuse religion and politics in the highest echelons of power. He wants to set aside the democratic state and establish a Christian Theology.

Johnson is so religiously extreme, he secured $18 million in taxpayer funds for a Noah’s Ark-themed amusement park in Kentucky. He legally represented the creationist ministry behind the park, successfully suing the state for withdrawing tourism tax incentives on grounds of religious discrimination. It’s a chef’s kiss example of how Johnson’s religious beliefs permeate his political ideology.

During his first speech as the GOP’s new leader, Johnson peppered his remarks with religious references, emphasizing the importance of faith in his politics. He recounted the history of the motto “In God We Trust” in the House chamber, highlighting the presence of Moses on the chamber’s wall, and invoking the Declaration of Independence’s use of the term “Creator.” Johnson’s religious fervor is undeniable and a bit shocking for mainstream politics in 2024.

“Someone asked me today in the media, ‘People are curious, what does Mike Johnson think about any issue?’ I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That’s my worldview.” — Speaker of the House Mike Johnson

The separation of church and state has long been a cornerstone of American democracy, but Johnson wants to crush that foundation and build his own repressive Christofascist society. He argues that the founders intended to protect the church from the state, rather than the other way around. Johnson’s allegiance to Christian nationalist David Barton, who has strongly opposed the separation of church and state, hints at the blueprint for his speakership. His leadership role will prioritize religious and moral virtue over the principles of a secular democracy. This is for certain.

Johnson’s ties to the evangelical community run deep. He has been associated with multiple Baptist churches and currently attends Cypress Baptist Church in Louisiana. His previous work with the Alliance Defense Fund, now known as Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian legal firm, underscores his fervor to promoting and defending conservative Christian ideology.

Johnson’s controversial stance on homosexuality proves he’s unfit to represent the diverse interests of the American people.

“… being gay is inherently unnatural and a dangerous lifestyle that could lead to legalized pedophilia and possibly even destroy the entire democratic system…” — Speaker of the House Mike Johnson

Johnson has shamelessly used his faith as a weapon to denounce same-sex relationships while claiming to be a champion of faith. He conveniently ignores the fundamental teachings of love, acceptance, and compassion that lie at the core of all religious beliefs. Instead, he chooses to weaponize his faith to discriminate against marginalized communities, perpetuating ugly stereotypes, and stigmatizing people (voters, btw). By denouncing gay relationships, he contributes to the perpetuation of discrimination, prejudice, and the denial of basic human rights.

As Speaker Johnson assumes his new role, his victory is celebrated by those who share his conservative Christian values. However, his election will clash with Democrats, mostly who view his religious convictions as a threat to American democracy.

Mike is also a strong election denier. Johnson continues to echo the wild conspiracy theories pushed by former President Donald Trump. Even after the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Johnson voted against certifying Biden’s win. So now the US Congress has someone who falsely claimed the last election was stolen being in a position to decide the outcome of the next one. Clearly he cannot unilaterally decide the election winner, but he can wreck the process enough so that the 2.0 version of Jan. 6th will be much worse.

“… you know the allegations about these voting machines, some of them being rigged with this software by Dominion look there’s a lot of merit to that the fix was in you know I could give you example after example in all these states…” — Speaker of the House Mike Johnson

Speaker Mike is a disaster for any democracy. He is a cult-like demagogue hell-bent to push his nonsensical religious beliefs into the faces and bedrooms of every American. He wants us all to believe in Mark 9:29: And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”  Johnson thinks our societal problems are more resistant than others and require a deeper level of spiritual discipline to overcome. In other words, not all our problems can be resolved easily or through human effort alone; some require divine intervention that can only be accessed through sincere prayer. This is a load of BS, of course.

Johnson’s blind faith will very likely usher in a new Democratic political wave, one that is deep blue. So while the medicine is brutally hard to swallow, the cure is coming in the form of a blue wave in 2024. Can I get an Amen for that?
