In a bold move, Agence France-Presse (AFP) has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter. The lawsuit, filed in Paris, accuses X of refusing to engage in discussions about potential payment for the distribution of AFP’s news content. This comes as a direct challenge to France’s copyright rule, which mandates that big tech platforms negotiate compensation with publishers for news distribution.

While Google and Meta Platforms have settled deals with French publishers, X remains defiant, with Musk even criticizing AFP for wanting payment, arguing that they make advertising revenue from their site while X doesn’t.

Why is X refusing to engage in payment discussions while its competitors, such as Google and Meta, are willing to do so?

The answer is Musk is a jackass.
